Bio

My name is Madisen (Mady) Richards. I started competing as a long jumper at the age of 7 and am now competing professionally representing the United States. I graduated from the University of Southern California in 2018 with a B.S. in Human Biology, where I was also an NCAA Division I All-American and Team Champion. As I navigate the world of professional track and field, I’m also preparing to apply to medical school where I’d like to specialize in Dermatology.

The Journey

“A river cuts through a rock, not because of it’s strength, but its persistence” -unknown

While I have been competing in the sport of Track & Field since I was 7 years old, I was never an age-group record holder or star. Yet, through hard- work, dedication, and a whole lot of faith; I have gone on to become a California High School State medalist, NCAA D1 All-American, NCAA Team Champion, and Olympic Trials Qualifier.

The Blog

“Tell the story of the mountain you climbed. Your words could be a page in someone else’s survival guide” Morgan Harper Nichols

My journey in the sport of Track and Field, while not over yet, has been far from the straight and narrow. I have faced countless moments of challenge and adversity, and it is those moments that have inspired me to start this blog. From injury, to mental and emotional struggles, balancing school, sports, and a life beyond practice, as well as little things such as a spark of motivation to get you through the week- I hope this blog can serve to be a place where you can find something relatable to guide you, inspire you, or just simply say “someone else has been there.”
