Hi Everyone!!

This first post is something I’m very excited about, as I’ve been looking to start a blog for a long time. Yet, with that being said, instead of telling you how excited I am that I’ve FINALLY got my blog up and running, I feel like I should introduce myself and let you all know a little more about me!

For starters, my name is Madisen Richards, but most people call me Mady, or as my blog is entitled: MadyJumps. I just graduated from the University of Southern California (USC) with a degree in Human Biology and am hoping to go to medical school within the next few years. I was also on the track and field team for 4 years, and to no surprise- my blog is in fact entitled MadyJumps- I am a long jumper. For those of you who aren’t super Track and Field savvy– that’s the one where you run (hopefully really fast) and jump (hopefully really far) into the sand.

I have been competing in the sport of track and field since I was 7 years old and found my love for long jump pretty early on. After trying pretty much every event on the track (hence the reason I have never run an 800 again) during my first season, I gave long jump a try, as it was the only field event my age group was allowed to compete in. After realizing my best friend was significantly better than me at it, I stuck with it for the rest of the season with the hope that I would eventually get good enough to beat her (train with the best to be the best– right??)

Over time, however, my goal of beating my best friend transcended into goals of making it to my high school state championships, getting a college scholarship, and becoming an NCAA D1 All American. With my big goals, my love for the sport, and for my event, also grew– something that I felt has been crucial to the fact that I am still competing after a long 15 seasons later.

Yet, despite the intense love I have for track and field- and for long jumping- like with any great love there has been equally great moments of challenge and adversity. It is from these moments of challenge and adversity, however, that have inspired me to write this blog.

My track and field journey has been far from the straight and narrow and hopefully through sharing my experiences I can inspire and bring guidance to those who may be facing similar obstacles. From injury, to mental and emotional struggles, balancing school, sports, and a life beyond practice, as well as little things such as a spark of motivation to get you through the week- I hope this blog can serve to be a place where you can find something relatable to guide you, inspire you, or just simply say “someone else has been there.”

I’m so excited for the future of this blog– and to hopefully get to know most of you who are reading it!

Feel free to comment below with any questions you have about me, send me a message in the “Say Hi!” section, or follow me on my Instagram/Twitter @mady_jumps!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post!!

For the first, and not nearly the last time–

MadyJumps
